Originally known as Parkash Singh Dhillon, Parkash Singh Badal was an Indian politician and government officer who rose to become president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), a Sikh-focused regional political organization in the Punjab state, from 1996 to 2008.
Badal graduated with a B.A. from the now-Pakistani Forman Christian College in Lahore, where he was born into a family of landowner farmers in what is now western Punjab province.
Akali Dal was supported by Parkash Singh Badal as well. From 1995 to 2008, he presided over the party, before his son Sukhbir Singh Badal took over as president.
